Ron at U.T. Photo explained that Super-8 cameras can lose registration if film particles, dirt or dust accumulate in the film claw pull-down area.
Ron explained to me that when the claw is pulling down the next film frame it can be prevented from reaching the bottom of it's stroke because of film debris.
This can cause the Super-8 camera to have less reliable registration AND can ruin either the motor that drives the claw or some other related component because the claw is not being allowed to complete it's natural motion.
Ron recommends a small soft toothbrush for gently clearing out debris from the claw/slit opening.
I have never done this! Anyone who has, please let us know what the do's and dont's are.

Has anyone checked their camera's claw to see if it is wrought with dreaded dust decay?

Everytime I've looked for my camera claw, it looks as though it's retracted.

I have not been clear enough either in my title or description. It's the space where the Claw reaches it's downstroke where the debris accumulates.
I may retitle this topic post.
